Dewalt Brushless 20V Max 16 Gauge Nailer DCN660

Dewalts been no stranger to cordless nailers as they currently have a few to choose from, two from their newest 20V Max line the XR brushless DCN690 (single speed) and DCN692 (2 speed) framing nailers and a few finish nailers for their aging 18V XRP platform ranging from 18, 16, and 15 gauge options. Many of the 20V Max platform users, including myself, have waited patiently, while others waited impatiently for Dewalt’s new finish nailers. The good news is that Dewalt will soon release their new cordless nail gun for their 20V Max platform.

The DCN660 16 gauge finish nailer is Dewalt’s latest nailer that has reached the 20V max. It is also getting the brushless treatment, like many other cordless power tools. Brushless power tools usually have a longer run time due to the more efficient motors. They also offer greater performance than similar brushed power tools. Dewalt claims that users can get 800 nails per charge with a 2.0 Ah XR compact battery pack, and 2,200 nails per recharge using the largest 5.0 Ah battery.

The new nailer will have the dual-mode single fire and bump fire settings. It weighs in at 3. kg and has a 2.0 battery. This is 10 kg lighter than their DC618 model and 3 cm shorter. Additional features include an LED light to illuminate just in front of the nailer and also acts as a low battery indicator and flashes with a nail jam. A tool-free jam release and depth adjustment are also included. This allows the driver to be reset without the use of tools.

Im very excited for this as I had great experiencewith their 18V nailer. So far only this 16 gauge is announced and I have my fingers crossed hoping well hear more news in the near future of additional finish nailers. It would be great to see a complete line of Dewalt 20V max nailers including 18 gauge brad and narrow crown staple nailers, and a 15 gauge nailer.

The Dewalt 20V max 16-gauge nailer is expected to arrive in October 2015. The nailer will come as both a bare tool DCN660B for and as a kit with one 2.0 ah battery, charger, and case for DCN660D1.
