The self-latching jaw design allows for easy opening. This improves alignment and makes it easier to use Class 3 gloves. The wire closes automatically, allowing for hands-free jaw closure. It also makes it easy to make mid-span cuts.
Hand ratchet tools put strain on the body and are difficult to use. The cordless transmission cutters can be difficult to align and have a latch-style head that makes it very awkward to close the wire when making mid-span cuts.
