Dewalt 12V Brushless Xtreme Subcompact Series - 5 New 12V Tools Finally !! !

Dewalt introduces five new tools to its 12V Max tools. They are all subcompact tools with brushless motors, called the Xtreme Series.

The five new 12V Xtreme series tools consist of a new DCD701 drill/driver, DCD706 hammer drill, DCF601 screwdriver, DCF801 impact driver and DCF902 3/20 cm impact wrench.

Dewalts 12v Max cordless line was severely neglected and updates to it were long overdue but the new Dewalt 12V brushless xtreme subcompact series are a very nice step in the right direction to hopefully building up the Dewalt 12V Max line into a full, well developed system like competing brands. These tools, except for the hammer drill, are not completely new to the 12V system. However it is pleasing to see that they all are brushless, especially considering that other brands such as Makita and Milwaukee already have many brushless 12V tools.

All of these new tools look very promising with great specs on paper. The 12V brushless impact drive produces 1450 in-lbs torque, which is more than the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Gen 2 driver that puts out 1300 in-lbs. Its also extremely compact at 13 cm in length. The impact driver features 3 modes: High Speed, Low Speed, and Precision Drive Mode. Precision Drive Mode can pause the Impact Driver for one second before impacting for precision driving. The 3/20 cm impact wrench puts out up to 1,500 in-lbs. of max fastening torque and 2,400 in-lbs. of breakaway torque with a compact 13 cm length. It has 3 modes: High Speed, Low Speed, and Precision Wrench Mode. The Precision Wrench Mode helps prevent overtightening and run-off. The hammer drill and drill/driver are both rated for 250 UWO. They still use their proprietary performance ratings, which I find is no surprise as buyers cannot directly compare torque specs between Dewalt drills with other brands. However Ive tried Dewalts 20V max DCD771 drill which is rated at 300 UWO and is strong for a compact 18V drill and the new 12V Xtreme series drills are pretty close according to paper stats. This drill measures 15 cm longer than Makita’s 12V brushless driver/drill. Dewalts 12V hammer drill is still a very compact 17 cm in length. The 12v screwdriver is rated for 200 UWO which is not too far behind the Xtreme series drills. This screwdriver is a single-speed screwdriver, and not one of the two drills drivetrains that offer two speeds. The screwdriver is is 12 cm long. For smooth, even lighting in dark areas, the LED light ring at the front of both the screwdriver and 2 impacts is included.

Besides offering 5 new Dewalt 12V Max tools, they also offer updated 2.0 ah batteries and a new compact 3.0 ah battery that offer a built in 3 LED Fuel Gauge. Although adding a fuel gauge to 2 batteries is a good step, I wish they had offered fatpack double-cell batteries with larger capacities.

Dewalt’s new 12V Xtreme series tools are available this summer. Each tool comes with a 3-year limited warranty, a one-year free service contract and a 90 day money back guarantee.

  • The 12V MAX* Brushless Drill/Driver (DCD701) is optimized for use in small pilot holes and can handle up to a
  • The 12V MAX* Brushless Intensifier Driver (DCF801) is small enough to work with small fasteners. It can also handle a 1/10cm lag bolt. The tool measures 13 cm in length and weighs 79kg (tool only). It achieves up to 1,450 in-lbs. of max torque, making it a powerful, subcompact choice. There are three modes for the impact driver: High Speed, Low speed, and Precision Drive Mode. The Impact Driver can be stopped for one second by using Precision Drive Mode. This protects the fastener and material surface, providing users with control during applications that require a high level of precision. It includes three LEDs at the nosecone and a variable speed trigger. There is also a belt clip.
  • The 12V MAX* Brushless Screwdriver (DCF601) is best used with hard-to-reach fasteners that need the control of its 15-setting clutch. The tool is 12 cm long, 7 kg (tool only), yet is capable of up to 200 UWO of power. The tool features a belt clip, three LEDs on its nosecone, and a third LED.
  • The 12V MAX* 3/20cm Brushless Impact Wrench with a Hog Ring Anvil (DCF902) is made for difficult-to-reach nuts. The tool measures 13 cm in length and weighs 78 kg (tool alone). It can lift up to 1,500 lb. of max fastening torque and 2,400 in-lbs. Breakaway torque. It has a variable speed trigger with three modes: High Speed Mode, Low Speed and Precision Wrench. The Precision Wrench Mode prevents overtightening or run-off. Three LEDs are located on the nosecone of the Impact Wrench to illuminate work areas.
  • The 12V MAX* Brushless Hammerdrill DCD706 is designed to create a variety of holes in brick or block. However, it can also be used for smaller holes in concrete. The tool is 17 cm long and 93 kg (tool-only). It is lightweight and compact, so it can be used in tight spaces. It can deliver up to 250 UWO and 25,500 BPM. There is also a variable speed trigger and a 2-speed transmission. A belt clip and LED are included on the tools foot.
